Berlin Night Express train
Not only is the Berlin Night Express the only direct train link from Germany to Sweden but it also offers a unique travel experience as part of the journey involves the train traveling onboard a ferry through the Baltic Sea. You don’t need to worry about airport check in or stressful traffic; you can relax and have a full night’s sleep awaking in the heart of either Berlin or Malmö and all this in less than 10 hours.
Berlin Night Express night train route
This train operates limited services. It runs on certain weekends and holidays from April to June. From the end of June it will have daily departures for the summer, until August 30. Please check the Snälltåget website for the complete schedule.
If you want to travel from Germany to Sweden outside of the spring and summer period, you will have to travel on a regular train service via Denmark.
Your Pass has to valid in all countries you're traveling in, for both the Berlin Night Express (Germany and Sweden) and the regular service via Denmark (Germany, Denmark and Sweden).
The Berlin Night Express is the only direct train connecting Germany and Sweden and runs on the following route:
- Berlin - Malmö
- Malmö - Berlin
Reservations on the Berlin Night Express night trains are mandatory
We recommend you make your reservations as far in advance as possible. For the Berlin Night Express you can book your reservation up to 6 months in advance.
Please note that this train doesn't run the whole year:
- 2 to 3 departures per month, in April, May and early June
- There are daily departures from the end of June to the end of August

If you book this train on the day of its departure, please note that you can only do so until 5 p.m.
On board the Berlin Night Express, sheets, blankets and pillows are provided. Beverages and light meals can be ordered and served in the compartment. During the ferry crossing hot meals are also available for purchase.
For traveling on this night train, your Eurail Pass needs to be valid in Sweden.
Please note: only holders of Sweden One Country Passes or Global Passes can travel on trains operated by SJ .
How to make reservations for the Berlin Night Express
You can reserve your sleeping accommodation on the Berlin Night Express in the following ways:

- By calling the Deutsche Bahn booking center (+49 1806 996 633 - press '9' in the German menu). Open 24/7.
- At the train station. Keep in mind that trains can become full during busy times.
